Her story

Leah is a Senior Legal Counsel at Downer Group.

Without mentioning your job title, how would you describe what it is you do now (whether at home, work, in the community, etc.)?

I problem solve legal and governance risk issues in complex resourcing scenarios.I build a community of like-minded women pursuing gender equality.I support and encourage family, friends and colleagues to do more of what makes them happy.I provide a safe, loving and stimulating environment for my daughter to thrive and my husband and I to grow further together.

What are the first three words you think of when you hear the word ‘diversity’?

• Complex• Equality• Better solutions

What do you think it will take to develop truly diverse thinking within the legal industry?

A shift in how successful lawyers operate, demonstrating that you can be a respected practitioner and prioritise your family, friends, community and personal pursuits and not have to sacrifice your career.

What was your main driver to enter the legal industry?

I respected the profession and the intellectual challenge appealed to me.
