Managing Director
Community Capital
Balveen Ajimal is the Managing Director at Community Capital.
I bring together people, organisations, investors and charities interested in collaborating and investing in social impact, quality of life and better outcomes for the communities in which I live and work. I thrive on supporting individuals and businesses on the point of transformation and finding ways to achieve full potential. I am constantly looking for ways to blend my learnings from law, private equity, the community sector and my family life to build sustainable growth and break down barriers to success.
What are the first three words you think of when you hear the word ‘diversity’?
Innovation, freedom, belonging
What do you think it will take to develop truly diverse thinking within the legal industry?
We need to constantly challenge the metrics of success in the legal industry to ensure our concepts of “what makes a good lawyer” are up to date and relevant for our clients, business environments and changing stakeholders. I would also challenge the definition of the “legal” industry and adopt a broader view of the numerous professionals whose careers have taken them outside the practice of law, but who continue to lead and contribute to the development and implementation of quality advice, commercial outcomes and social impact.
What was your main driver to enter the legal industry?
My mother! I wanted to go into politics!
