Her story

Alicia Sheridan is the General Counsel at Cross River Rail Delivery Authority.

Without mentioning your job title, how would you describe what it is you do now (whether at home, work, in the community, etc.)?

I work with my colleagues at the Delivery Authority to provide legal solutions that are commercially relevant,  that are focused on clear and positive outcomes and that provide good value for money for the project and the State.  My role focuses on the mangement of the core delivery contracts for our project.  My role involves collaborating with teams and individuals to address complex issues, all while ensuring that my work is grounded in strong legal analysis.  Legal work can often be complex and high-pressure, but I believe that maintaining a positive, calm, and empathetic approach helps to create an environment of trust and respect.

What are the first three words you think of when you hear the word ‘diversity’?

Perspectives' and 'work in progress'.  These words capture the inherent value in obtaining different experiences and viewpoints to improve conversation and decision-making processes. And, while progress has been made in increasing diversity within the profession and in the community, there is still much to be done.

What do you think it will take to develop truly diverse thinking within the legal industry?

As new generations of lawyers come through the ranks, the pressure to make diversity a reality will increase.

What was your main driver to enter the legal industry?

I was keen to use my degree and see where it led!
