Her story

Carol is the General Counsel at Queensland Treasury.

Without mentioning your job title, how would you describe what it is you do now (whether at home, work, in the community, etc.)?

Responsible for managing legal risk exposure and compliance for Queensland Treasury including through governance and administrative support to senior management, managing the allocation, procurement and delivery of legal advisory services and support to the business and contributing as a corporate leader.

What are the first three words you think of when you hear the word ‘diversity’?

Safety, community, inclusion.

What do you think it will take to develop truly diverse thinking within the legal industry?

Humility and the capacity to be curious rather than judgemental.  Self-awareness and accountability.

What was your main driver to enter the legal industry?

I was inspired to become a lawyer because I wanted to help make the world a better place and thought the law would give me opportunities to achieve the dream of a childhood social warrior.  I also wanted to be the first woman in my family to go to university, obtain a degree and pursue the law.
