McCullough Robertson Lawyers
Celia is a Senior Associate at McCullough Robertson Lawyers.
Help guide construction practitioners through administration of their projects, and provide advice and support when disputes arise. Often, I provide reassurance where there is uncertainty, and realistic expectations where necessary. All of this is done through the lense of our clients' commercial goals, and consideration of their place in the industry more broadly.
What are the first three words you think of when you hear the word ‘diversity’?
Inclusion, recognition and support.
What do you think it will take to develop truly diverse thinking within the legal industry?
More diversity in positions of seniority. Having a broad range of individuals in those positions necessarily filters change down the ranks, and affects how the legal industry operates. This includes expectations on individuals and how they balance work and home (e.g. parents with childcare responsibilities). Hopefully, more diverse senior members of our profession will also challenge the 'traditional' views of what being a lawyer means, and empower our more junior colleagues to develop their career in a way that helps them to fulfil their potential, while appropriately balancing life outside of work.
What was your main driver to enter the legal industry?
An interest in legal studies in high school and a well-timed discussion after completion of my undergraduate degree! Now that I'm here, though, in the construction and infrastructure space, I enjoy the interplay between the law and the commercial goals of our clients, and seeing something that we've worked on be built is really satisfying.
