Her story

Elspeth is a Senior Associate and Regional Office Leader (Mackay) at Maurice Blackburn Lawyers.

Without mentioning your job title, how would you describe what it is you do now (whether at home, work, in the community, etc.)?

At work I lead the Mackay office of Maurice Blackburn Lawyers to ensure the very best client care and access to justice for regional Queenslanders.   At home I guide my two amazing daughters aged 13 and 14 to discover and embrace their most authentic self and not feel bound to live by other's expectations.

What are the first three words you think of when you hear the word ‘diversity’?

Acceptance, Individuality, Progress.

What do you think it will take to develop truly diverse thinking within the legal industry?

No longer needing to seek permission to take off a mask that never actually suited you.

What was your main driver to enter the legal industry?

My desire to show empathy to those suffering from loss, while delivering real tangible results that can often change the path of a client's or their family's life.

Contribute to the rich tapestry of women in Australian law

This campaign is not just a reflection of the past; it's an invitation to join the celebration of women in law. We invite you to nominate other women within the legal industry to share their stories, anecdotes, and tributes. Together, let's honour their legacy and inspire future generations.
